The Church of Christ is a group of Christian churches that many categorize as conservative, Protestant, faith-based entities, which largely operate as independent organizations.

In baptism, for instance, while both believe, teach, and practice adult immersion, Baptits believe it the ordinance of baptism does not save, but serves as a symbol. Churches of Christ, on the other hand, believe that baptim saves and that it is what makes a sinner to become a Christian.

As a result, most divisions among Churches of Christ have been the result of "methodological" disputes. These are meaningful to members of this movement because of the seriousness with which they take the goal of "restoring the form and structure of the primitive church".

The Church of Christ traditionally engages in acapella-style worship. Acapella is a term describing the absence of instruments and the use of only human voice to create melody. This tradition initially began because of financial realities, said David Baird, historian and dean emeritus of Seaver College.
